Shepherd SM-90 Drone Reed Tidbits

It has been our experience that Shepherd SM-90 drone reeds perform best at their factory settings.

All three drone reeds are identical.  Only the Bridle length and the tongue length differentiate the bass from the tenor drones.

Measurements:

  • Tenor Bridle: 8 mm

  • Tenor Tongue: 14 mm

  • Bass Bridle: 19 mm

  • Bass Tongue 19 mm

The white spacer bands are removable.  However, we recommend that you keep them in place.  If you choose to remove them to fine tune your reeds, BE SURE to store them in a safe place.  Handle the spacers with care if you decide to remove them as they can break in half lengthwise.

A manual about the SM-90 reeds can be found HERE.
